Well, that was new. My PC wasn't just named "Tom", so either the game was modified especially for me, or it somehow knew my name. Spooky. Back on the title screen, I selected Eggman, since Amy was missing along with Tails and Knuckles. The level was a lot more flat this time, with a checkered floor and purple backdrop. Torches burned in the background, and Eggman looked noticably worried. To the right was a staircase, which I presumed would trigger the next encounter with Sonic, but I figured I'd check what was to the left, just for the heck of it. Glad I did, too. As far left as I could go, I came across a panel, which Eggman automatically activated. A message popped up on screen reading "FAILSAFE ACTIVATED", which was pleasing. Eggman didn't do anything else, so I ran back to the staircase and had Eggman run down it. When I reached the bottom, it looked almost identical to where I just was, except the torches had darkened. Eggman couldn't jump, so I couldn't go back up the stairs. The entire process looped once, meaning a flat expanse followed by stairs, once more, though once I reached the very bottom, the torches had gone out completley. I walked forward, Sonic appeared, all that was normal. However, instead of cutting to black, static filled the screen, before a window popped up that read "circumstances for FAILSAFE have been met. Activating FAILSAFE..." before closing and the game loaded a new level, titled "Final Escape". I was playing as a robotic duplicate of Sonic, flying through the air, with Sonic floating on the edge of the screen. He looked just as demonic as before, with horns and fangs. A control menu popped up, instructing me that Z was shield, X was dash, and C was counter. I managed to get pretty far into the fight, dodging and countering projectiles and dealing a decent amount of damage to Sonic, but eventually my health did drain to zero and my character fell out of the sky. The screen cut to black again, but instead of a message, Sonic himself appeared in a close-up shot. His empty sockets pointed directly at me, which was unnerving. He spoke, which was new.
