To disable automatic program updates, open the Avast settings menu, select the General tab. Then select the "Update" option, go to the "Virus definitions" section, and select "Manual update". Then go to the Application Update section and also select Manual Update. After that, you should restart your computer and re-enter the Task Manager to check the disk load.
