Officially, iTunes 12.5.1 is the minimum version that upgrades or restores iOS 10 and Apple no longer supports XP or Vista. However, some readers report success with updating their iPhone and iPads to iOS 10.0.1 or 10.0.2 and say they are still able to sync with iTunes 12.1.3.6. Apple created this 12.1.3 version of iTunes for iOS 9 and Vista, but appears compatible with iOS 10.0.2 and Windows XP.
