We certainly should, in the fields that 3D printing (or, moregenerally, any sort of personal fabrication) can handle. Printerpatterns to make a useful, practical object (i.e., functional ratherthan decorative) must be free because they are works made forpractical use. Users deserve control over these works, just as theydeserve control over the software they use. Distributing a nonfreefunctional object design is as wrong as distributing a nonfreeprogram.
