Laminated glass is made of more than just one layer of glass as is the case with standard window glasses. It comprises a layer of vinyl sandwiched by two glass layers. This vinyl layer serves the purpose of holding together the glass even when it breaks. If the outer glass layer is affected, the inner one will remain in one piece.
