This fact alone tells me you are NOT looking in the right place for your
profile. Firefox can't invent your old bookmarks from some magical
formula, so it MUST be reading them from a file, somewhere, even if it
isn't complete, and you will probably find your backups there too.
Make sure you search ALL mounted drives, and if you were using a
'jumpdrive' at the time you saved bookmarks, you might just install it
and search there too.--
