He used those pedals and the guitar to come up with these almost synthesizer type noises. Just atmosphere, kind of echoing rumbling, cinematic type sounds. This is five years before we ever knew it might be used in any kind of film or TV show or anything but I wanted it to have that kind of cinematic quality from the beginning.
