The real key is to use no plugins, in any browser, and to turn off the plugins that come with them. Turn off Java. Turn off Flash when you don't need it. If you use Chrome, then I'd suggest that you get "Flash Block" to preemptively stop websites from launching Flash (a processor, battery and memory hog), except when you want them too (you can manually launch Flash on a per page, or even per Flash item basis). Firefox has a similar addon that is much lower quality, but it is still worth it. IE probably has something, but I do not use it.
