This Gecko code is Region-Free which means it works with any version of the game, but it comes with some side effects. It makes cutscenes run very slowly on the North American version of the game, causes falling stars to appear in the top corners and top middle of the screen, and makes the blue/red coins in Gelato Beach near impossible to get.
