Hideo Kojima in 1993, upon hearing the announcement of a Sony console with great 3D capabilities, idealized the third Metal Gear game in 3 dimensions. In 1993 he was working on the game Policenauts for PC-9821, and in 1994 he created this game for the 3DO console. In 1995, development of Metal Gear Solid began exclusively for the Sony PlayStation. The plot point of a renegade American special forces unit taking control of a nuke on US soil was originally meant to be the plotline for Metal Gear 2: Solid Snake, although Kojima had nixed it during that game's development due to believing it to be too unrealistic. He ultimately used it for Metal Gear Solid largely due to the growing changes in society in the aftermath of the Cold War.[16]
