Also known as an infuriata or agitata, these are highly passionate arias. Sometimes on violent themes, highly syllabic (one syllable per note), filled with short notes and with little ornamentation. In opera seria these are usually driven by rage, in opera buffa more likely confusion and distress (rage is a bit heavy for comedy!)
