It's also a great way of connecting battery packs to cameras in a way that doesn't yank the camera off the tripod, if someone stumbles into the cable (A7rii in that case - which has notoriously small internal batteries). I sometimes used this setup to record some jam sessions - and it's saved the camera few times in a crowded bar.
