The research tab can be accessed as one of the major tabs below your country info along with diplomacy, newspaper, front reports, and coalitions. The research tab has 6 different branches/tech trees: Infantry, Ordnance, Tanks, Air, Naval, and Secret. Each of these corresponds to different unit types.
