The J2534 Standard is a specification developed by the Society of Automotive Engineers for the recommended practices of Pass-Thru Programming. This provides a universal application programming interface for all OEM tools, so that independent technicians can purchase one tool to reprogram all vehicles. As part of the Standard, OEMs are also required to supply the update files to the aftermarket at a fair and reasonable price.
