One reason for this has to do with the fact that with the coming of multiplexes and the ability to segment audiences, it became possible to target films at a much smaller set of people and still be commercially viable. A new breed of filmmakers has emerged who have been born in this world and do not possess the ability to make any other kind of films. While there is much greater diversity in storytelling today in the time of Amitabh Bachchan, the films lack the breadth of appeal that characterised the classic blockbusters. Simultaneously the older filmmakers who had managed to speak to both audiences, the Karan Johars, Mansoor Khans, Sooraj Barjatyas and Raju Hiranis of the world find it more difficult to capture the emotional undercurrents of the day.
