While most of the major deaths involved Briarcliff's staff, some of the patients also fell victim, including Grace Bertrand (Lizzie Brocher). She attempted to escape from Briarcliff with Kit on several occasions before being abducted by aliens. She later returned impregnated but was retaken by them when she was shot and killed. The aliens brought her back to life and delivered her to Briarcliff when she was ready to give birth. Grace and her baby eventually lived with Kit when he was cleared of the Bloody Face murders. Matters became complicated when Kit's presumed-dead wife, Alma, returned with her own child. In 1967, Alma murdered Grace with an axe after the pair had a disagreement regarding the aliens' intent.
