In Microsoft Windows, by default IPv4 and IPv6 are enabled and the IPv4 DHCP starts up first then IPv6 is brought up, very rarely have I seen an actual IPv6 connection through a residential gateway, meaning your computer is assigned an IPv6 address from your ISP directly, not just a link-local and loop-back device.
