If in your situation you are running close to feedback in your stage monitors, remember ... for every dB of compression you add to the vocals it will be one less dB of potential gain in the monitors (you'll be moving one dB closer to feedback). It's not usually much of a problem when micing instruments (well maybe acoustic guitar).
