I haven't played around with water too much yet so I'm sure someone else can help. But I guess read my comment above that it had to be a generic asset, not in the information tab. Also maybe water works differently because water materials usually work straight out of the box in enscape so maybe try changing it to a water asset instead of a generic. I'm still learning sorry so I can't be much help but maybe someone else knows.
