This in FEW cases can be fixed using DOS or doing a load
over of win98. win98SE can be truly a mess. Most Load overs
will stop from 65%to 89%.
Most of the time this error is caused by an endless list
of updates. VMM32IOS.vxd problems also can cause CDROM`s
to freeze up the OS and or break the CDRMs driver. The list
of what can cause this is to long to post.
First I would open the case, Un-plug the ribbon going to
the CDROM and the power too.
Turn in on, if it boots normally go to device manager
and uninstall all drivers listed for the CDROM.
Turn it off, do not reboot. Wait 10 to 15 seconds, turn
it on. If it boots normally Do Not Turn It Off.
