Hershel Greene is a main character and a survivor of the outbreak in AMC's The Walking Dead. A farmer and veterinarian, Hershel lived in rural Georgia for many years with his family on their farm. Hershel's wife Annette, stepson Shawn, and nephew Arnold were infected and reanimated during the initial outbreak. Unable to face reality, Hershel believed them to be sick rather than dead and kept them in the barn until a cure could be found. Farmhand Otis then put other zombies in the area, including neighbors and loved ones. Hershel continued to live on his farm in isolation with his daughters, Maggie and Beth; Beth's boyfriend, Jimmy; and Otis and his wife, Patricia.
