The subject pronoun is not always necessary in Spanish sentences when it is implied as in the cause of when referring to the self as in yo meaning "I." However, it should always be used when it is not implied like when using l, ella, or usted meaning "he, she, or you (singular/formal)" since they all use the same conjugation form in Spanish.
