Daugavpils University, established in 1921, is the foremost academic and research institution in Eastern Latvia. Its Department of Russian and Slavic Linguistics has a long tradition of research and instruction in Russian language and literature. It is recommended that students have completed at least 2 semesters of college level Russian language courses prior to their timetime abroad as most of their classes will be taught in Russian.
