Our data shows that the number of consumer boycotts of foreign companies has increased significantly in recent years (see Figure 1).[8] Between 2008 and 2015, there were two small peaks (in 2008 and 2012), but since 2016 there has been a steady increase with a significant spike in 2019. These peaks are all connected to specific political events.
