I plan to make this a series but...it's been a while since I watched Walking Dead so I'm probably going to have to re-watch the whole series again (as I haven't seen Season One yet either...) so I'm just going out on a limb here and see how it goes...this is more of a reader's view as well...also, I'm just trying to let the creativity flow out and see how my writing is....I'm sorry if some thing's have been sort of altered or what not...

This is also something I've been always thinking about too...I mean, if why not look at a Walker's perspective? Don't hate me if you don't like!

Oh, and this will probably be unconnected to the series as this is just a one-shot for now...but it'll have the same style but different perspective....

Barely Human...

I remember how it all happened. I woke up to the scream of my brother crying out. I soared out of my bed and ran to his bedroom. "Albert, why are you..."

That's when I stood silent. Mom...she wasn't alive. In place of her was a living corpse, all grey and blood splattered, hissing at Albert with its yellow teeth. It reached out its claws at him and Albert dashed to me.

I picked him up and ran out of the house. I went back in to find Dad but I heard a loud shot. Dad came out with a gun. "Dad, what the hell?" I roared. I then thought..."Did you..."

"Honey, something's going on," Dad said. "I just found out the neighbors from next door are the same way. Everyone's being turned...We have to get out of here."

"What's going on? What's..." I asked. Dad ran to the truck and began to ignite it. Albert hopped on the seats. I followed right behind. Dad then back to back out and zoomed off.

That's when it hit me...zombies. We were about to be in an apocalypse.

"Dad, we have to head back and get supplies," I said. "Don't you see what's going on? Something is spreading and turning everyone into living corpses. If we're going to survive this, we need to get supplies and weapons. Even if it's not zombies...we still need survival stuff."

"We're not going back and facing those things!" Dad said. "Are you kidding? Better off to run and then gather while you can."

"Then, I'm going back," I said, opening the door. I jumped out and rolled onto the dirt. I rushed over back to the house. "(Y/n)!" I heard Dad's truck's tires spin and back after me. I dashed over to the house.

I stop frozen dead. There was a living corpse in front of the house. It waddled around, confused where it would head. I rushed pass it, thinking it won't notice me. It did.

Immediately, the corpse attacked me, waving its arms and lunged at my legs. "Ah, let go of me!" I growled, kicking my feet at it. Big mistake. It chomped onto my ankle.

I screamed in pain as the teeth clamped onto my flesh. I attempted to wave it off but the monster hung on, sinking deeply more. I used my other foot to squish its head. Luckily, I got it to unclamp but it still tried to chomp more.

I limped over back to the house but I fell and crawled in. I felt myself changing, getting hot and then cold. I'm changing, I thought. Crap. I turned back around to see if Dad was still following. His truck was heading forward now, leaving me in the desert. He knew what my fate was. I knew it too.

Still, what kind of father does that? Leaves his kid out to die when he could of found out some way to help...

I felt a ferocious pain rumble in my ankle. I yelped and roared as my brain began to combust with migraines and neurological changes. I felt weak. I felt cold, hot, sweating, dizzy. My blood pressure went off. Pain all around me...I don't want to die now. Yet, I had to though.

I was about to become a zombie...

Where am I now you can say? Well, I'm dead....but alive. Dead alive. I don't even know how to explain. It's like, when I walk, I don't feel it but I'm like stumbling...but I feel the impulse to run. To be human again.

But I can't be since I'm dead. My brain may function but it doesn't do well...

So basically, I'm a Walker. That's what the humans call us. Walkers. Not zombies.

We can run fast if we want to when we see prey. Of course, we stumble and walk but we're very slow at it so we make attempts to run. It's hard to see sometimes but the smell of prey helps us like whiskers of a cat....we know where they are. Unless they smell like us...like dead people. And we're always hungry. I can have a full meal of a horse and still want something to eat. We can go on without eating but we just can't help wanting the taste of flesh on our mouths....Don't ask me. I guess it's just a zom...Walker thing.

It's kind of hard to explain. It's like, well, physically, I'm no longer human. I've got grey skin and it's starting to rot a little. The bite mark on my ankle is now just a mess of meaty flesh and my eyes are like molten (e/c). When I speak, I just growl and hiss. I don't look like a human...but I act like one.

Mentally, I think I'm still human. I try to walk like one, I think like one and even sometimes, out of nowhere, I cry like one. It's like as if you're in one of those dreams were you're still dreaming but your brain wakes up and you attempt to get out of bed but you can't because your brain's awake but the body's asleep...so I guess I have that thing you can say. Only it's worse since when you move around, you know you're not the same.

It's kind of weird. Many of the Walkers I see raise suspicion of me. They just look at me and huff when I attempt to walk naturally. They get rowdy when I try to speak to them.

Walker talk ain't no joke. So I just huff and leave them.

It's my life of as a Walker now. Or whatever the heck I am. Stuck in a dead body...but still seeing it. I hate my life...

Every now and then, I like to "travel". Traveling is hard since of course, I just walk but sometimes I'll get to run and go see if I can come across some place I can recognize as a kid.

It's a good thing too that most of the humans are gone now, off to find help.

The problem is they freak out at the first sight of a Walker. I've seen a couple just shoot the things even before the Walker notices them. I tend to keep to myself. Stay out of plain sight. If anything, I act like I'm dead and not move. I don't any trouble from them.

Ever since Dad left me out to bite in the dust...seriously, what can of parent is that? To leave their kid out like that? And this whole time what a great parent I thought he was....I guess it is every man for himself. I wonder if he turned cannibal and...

I shivered at the idea. As much as zombies do eat humans, real life cannibals just give me the creeps...I'm sure Albert's ok though...

My mind was running off into these ideas as my body began to walk around. I felt my stomach growl a bit. Always hungry. I looked around.

If anything, I chowed down on dead things if I can. They tasted nasty but it was something to satisfy the hunger. I couldn't picture myself eating live things. I wasn't there yet. But my body was.

I "walked" towards a grocery store, wondering if there was any frozen meat left. Hey, better than anything. That's when I noticed some Walkers running toward something...probably another living being.

Until I heard the screams. I slowly turned my head to see where the Walkers were running to. It was...a human boy? He was screaming his head off and running. The Walkers were chasing him, arms reaching out and running.

I attempted to roll my eyes. Stupid kid. Didn't he know that running is a bad option?

I don't know why either, but I felt like being supergirl all of a sudden. Like, I had to help out the poor kid...again, don't ask why, maybe it's my human me. My Walker part told me eat but the human part told me save...yet, if I saved the kid, he'll just scream his head off and run...after all, I am a Walker.

I decided just to "join" the walkers and see if any of them caught up with the kid. The kid ran like crazy, slipping past trees and dashing off. He was yelling for help and running out of breath.

I smelled his sense. Hmm, young and fresh. That's another thing Walkers can do. You can smell what can of person your prey was.

I saw the Walkers gain closer on him. I huffed. Well, at least the kid could be one of the people to know how to fight this thing...I ran with the Walkers and followed with them the kid.

The kid came to a dead end and turned around. The Walkers charged at him. I then came to the font and hissed at them. GRAW! The Walkers growled back, throwing their arms up.

I growled. Hrr! My prey!

One of the Walkers stupidly then charged at me. I dug my nails into its flesh and bit hard on its neck. It attempted to bite back but somehow, I grabbed it and threw it to the ground. I then jumped onto its head, splattering it into pieces. The Walkers stepped back, surprised.

I then waved my arms around. Hrr! Hroah! Back! My prey! They then turned around and walked away.

I turned to the kid. Hrr! I then turned around and began to follow the Walkers. "You...saved me? What the hay?"

I looked back at the kid. He looked about ten or older. He was wearing some sort of cowboy hat with a blue shirt. He was glancing at me curiously.

I waved my hand. Hrr. Yeah. I attempted to turn around and walk again.

"Are you a Walker?"

I glanced at the kid. His face was full of questions. I then waved my arms around again. Hrr. Ghrowk. Goihgwl. Ghigirn. Grawl! I moved my hands around, trying to tell the kid that I was a Walker. Well, maybe only a little. I was talking like one. Maybe he thought I was a human acting like a Walker.

"It's ok if you're acting like it, they're gone now," the kid said.

I huffed. Grr. Do I look human to you? I then turned around but now the kid went up in front of me. He was gazing at me, wondering if I was human.

Grawk! I hissed. Kid, I'm not human! Jeez. It's a good thing I wasn't hungry either. For some odd reason, I smelled him but I didn't feel like eating. Huh, my stomach must of finally stopped working.

The kid saw me trying to explain to him. "You....understand me? Are you trying to tell me something?"

I drooped my eyes. Ugh, humans. So I made an attempt at signing. It was very slow and hard but I told the kid that I understood him, that I was really one of "them". I was just an innocent Walker with a human mind and trapped like this until my brain got chopped.

I then turned around and began to really walk fast. I mean, the kid could be with someone. What if they saw me and went berserk, thinking I was stalling the kid so that I could take a bite? Not to mention, the kid smelled a bit good...better walk away from this.

I didn't hear the kid say anything back to me. Instead, of course, he ran. Just what I wanted him to do.

Night time. Let me tell you, if you're ever a Walker at night, it's nice. It's like you get this cool night vision. You can sense a human being or other Walkers around you. The darkest places end up being more brighter for some reason.

I wonder if this virus was meant to be some sort of superhuman injection.

I stumbled around, wondering if maybe there was somewhere I could lay my head for a bit. I make sure that I move a limb though just in case any of the Walkers try to pull a move on me.

I sat down on a beach chair and growled. Ugh. I was hating this life more. It sucked to be a human stuck in a Walker body. No body to connect to besides the other Walkers but it's not like that understand human emotions and such.

I saw a Walker pass by me, moaning. I rolled my eyes. Poor bastards. If only some of them knew possibly they were still human....

"You're making no sense," I heard a voice say. I looked up and glanced around. I then saw a trail of smoke. I turned around to see a group of trees, reflecting the glimmer of fire.

I tiptoed to the trees. Pushing a small bush aside, I peeked at the scene.

There was a group of humans around a fire, all with equipment and tents up. Mostly adults and one kid maybe. They looked all ragged and dirty. I sniffed to sense how fresh they were. Hmm, not bad but maybe a bit too reek.

"You sure you weren't dreaming, kid?" I heard one of the adults say.

Then I spotted the kid I rescued. He was talking to the adult. "I'm telling you, it saved my life," the kid said. "I was cornered and then it started killing one of its own...then it just walked away."

"Please don't tell me you bumped your head or something," another adult said. He shook his head. "Maybe sending him to look about was a bad idea, Rick."

I crouched down and attempted to peer more.

"Walkers are dead, kid," another adult said. "They don't communicate. They don't save lives. All they want is one thing: life."

"This one didn't," the kid said. "She was trying to talk to me and then...she left. Maybe there's something human in her still. Maybe she's trapped."

"How is that even possible?" This one was a woman. "Why would it save you? They're....dumb. It's all about fight for your own survival...but then...ugh, this doesn't make any sense."

"I'm going back tomorrow and I'm going to find her," the kid said. "I know it sounds crazy but maybe she can help us..." Immediately the adults burst into laughter. They held onto their stomachs.

An Asian looking guy wiped something out of his eye. "Some kid you got there, Rick," he said.

The guy named Rick shook his head. He then looked at the kid. "What you saw was probably a dream."

"No, I swear I saw...."

"It was a dream, Carl. They're not humans. They're dead."

Oh, how I wanted to come out and punch that guy. Poor kid. If I come out and did signing, then it would show them that the kid was right. Only, they might scream and start chopping my head off. There was no guarantee that they would let me in like nothing.

So I tried quietly backing away. It was better to have the kid think I was a dream. Only stupid me ended up snapping on a twig. The group then jumped, clinging onto their weapons. See what I mean?

"What was that?" I heard another woman said.

I backed away slowly, not intending to make a sound.

I then turned around and ran. Or tried to. It was more like hop on one foot.

Oh, how they smelled a bit delicious though. My stupid brain had signaled that I was hungry. I had to go back and feast on them. Deep down, I knew I couldn't. I wasn't murderer. I don't kill people for food. It's not me.

I then felt my body twist, turning back to the group and charging back to them. Hrr! I clamped my mouth shut and tried to turn around. Oh, how my brain works though! It just led me right into the group!

Grr! Hrr! I swung my hands at my mouth, nibbling on my fingers to keep me from eating them.

"Oh, shat, Walker!" I heard someone say.

"That's her!" the kid said, pointing at me. "She saved me!"

"Carl, get away from her!" a woman said, holding him back.

I bit down harder on my fingers. Mhhmmm! Get away while you can!

"Is she biting herself?" one of the adults said.

"She's just preparing for the kill, that's all," another said, readying his weapon at me.

I shook violently, forcing myself to hold back, making no attempts to attack. I didn't want to hurt them. I wanted to show I was human, stuck in a dead body. Yet, my brain had other plans for me to make.

"Hrrghgh! Kghghrpp!" I screamed and held onto my head.

"Is she in pain?"

"She's a Walker!"

"Yet she's crying like something biting her."

"Because she bit herself!"

"Why is she showing emotion? What the hell is going on?"

I slammed my hands on the floor and shrieked, my body ready to pounce and attack. The pain to resist was hurting me, it felt like a vessel ready to pop.

"She's going to attack us!"

"You shoot her!"

"What if she bites me?"

"Why don't we trap her in the tent?"

"Oh, and have her mark it up? That happens to be our last tent you know....."

"She's crying like a baby.....What kind of Walker is this?"

"Someone make a decision!"

The adults were rambling at each other, arguing about what they should down with me. I felt ready to kill, my nail claws digging into the earth, my body shivering with adrenaline. This was it. Kill or run.

Then I heard the kid say something. "Wait, don't!"

I heard something...a shot, a whip, a swung, a snap....something...whacked into my head. Then darkness...

Oh thank God it's over.
