In 2011, the US government was trying to find a way to ban file sharing, and to shut down any website that bypasses or breaks copyright laws. They used an argument in their case that was from around 6 years ago which resulted in a lot of websites getting shut down due to copyright reasons in 2012 when the new copyright law was released, and websites distributing things like anime and movies got shut down. Wanna know the argument? Child porn. Exploiting children on the internet was the argument used. It was said that if the council didn't agree to the ban of any and all distribution websites, not just those with child porn, then they must LIKE knowing children are exploited this way. Movie2k got shut down, Megaupload and Megavideo got shut down, as did PirateBay for a while, all of which had access to porn, but had strict guidelines on them (everyone in said porn must be 18). Many websites that specifically distributed anime were also shut down, under the exact same law. They didn't have porn at all. However, with exception to the anime distribution websites, the other 4 have since revived under different names.
